To The Mother Of The Boy Who Fell Into Gorilla World | Cincinnati Ohio

May 30 2016

To The Mother Of The Boy Who Fell Into Gorilla World I am writing to you with hope that amongst the myriad articles, posts and comments circulating worldwide, this letter reaches you and you are brave enough to open it. It stands to reason you’ll be hesitant. People have been quick to point accusatory fingers. I’m certain the overwhelming vitriol has you guarding and protecting yourself from passionately fueled individuals seeking justice through any avenue and venue available. But, you need to read this. As a mother of three, and owner of a green company who supports animal welfare and our responsibility to the world at large, I have a message you need to hear. How about a little grace? Do I mourn the loss of Harambe? Yes, I do. He was an incredibly majestic creature housed at and protected by the Cincinnati Zoo. I say protected, because he was was an endangered species. His presence was profound and our family enjoyed his egotistic personality time and time again. I presume you are regretful for the part you ultimately played in the death of this magnificent animal. But I extend grace to you. I’ve watched criticism morph into anger and have read terrible comments and judgement to the full degree. And yes, I’ve even seen death threats. But I grant you grace. Even the best parents have lost sight of their child for a split second, myself included. It’s a feeling a parent doesn’t forget. Even the best people have made catastrophic mistakes. The difference being, your experience is now in the public eye, ripe for scrutiny, second-guessing and a plethora of if onlys. It is easy to point fingers from behind a computer screen, smart phone or tablet. But you must bear in mind, sadness oftentimes gives birth to […]

Liquid Gold Never Looked So (Colloidal) Silver

Mar 01 2016

Colloidal silver has been used for 115 years as a natural antibiotic in countless applications. It fell out of favor with the advent of prescription antibiotics. But in recent years, as antibiotic resistance to potentially lethal bacteria like MRSA and SARS has escalated, the use of colloidal silver is making a come back and gaining respect. Like anything else, there has been much debate on the different forms of silver (ionic silver, silver protein, true colloidal silver). I want to save you a lot of time, and focus on the scientifically backed principles and guidelines for the best option: true colloidal silver.  I’ve listed a number of resources at the bottom of this page that validate the safety and effectiveness of colloidal silver. For now, we’ll focus on the benefits. So what can colloidal silver do? Here are a just a few of its incredible health benefits: Proven effective against antibiotic resistant microbes like SARS and MRSA Helps eliminate the streptoccocus and staphloccocus bacteria It can be used for ear infections When used topically, creates a healthy environment for thriving skin by killing bacteria and dissolving pore blocking sebum. Use it topically for yeast infections, oral thrush and jock itch It has anti-tumor properties against MCF-7 human breast cancer cells You can spray it on wounds and infections for faster healing and to minimize scarring Use it regularly to support your immune system Clearly colloidal silver is liquid gold! It is my go to supplement choice for regular health maintenance, just about every sickness from the flu- to strep throat and even topical applications for minor scrapes and burns. My husband and I have reduced our medicine/first aid cabinet to a few boxes of Band-Aids, some hydrogen peroxide and our favorite brand of colloidal silver, Sovereign Silver. So are you surprised that I incorporated and said “liquid gold” into a […]

Get Lucky, Naturally | My Valentine’s Day Secret

Jan 27 2016

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, there’s a fair chance that you’ve come up with or are looking for ideas for what to do with your partner. Something sexy, perhaps? A massage with essential oil may be exactly what you’re looking for – affordable, intimate, special.     So why not just a massage? Why essential oils? Besides the fact that it makes massages go much smoother, some essential oils are aphrodisiacs, making it the perfect choice for an incredibly romantic night. Some of my personal favorites include: Organic Sweet Almond Oil – light and absorbent, this oil is necessary to carry the essential oils and also nourishes and hydrates skin. Organic Ylang Yiang Oil – as one of the most powerful aphrodisiacs, it increases libido, energy, and eroticism Organic Bergamot Oil – exciting and rejuvenating Organic Jasmine Oil – lifts mood and creates energy; its erogenous effect has been used to treat premature ejaculation   How to give the Perfect Massage You start by warming the oil – running the bottle under hot water will do fine – and then pouring it so it pools on your partner’s back. Before you start, communicate with your partner – ask them where it hurts, what’s tense. This is a time to make it about them. Talk to them, and reassure them that all of their tension will be released. Make sure they are in the most optimal position before you start. It’s actually better if they keep their arms by their side rather than use them to make a pillow for their head. Tuning into their pain, push into their muscles with one hand on top of the other, letting your grip slide in the oil across their back. Allow the oil to guide you. Let its aroma inspire you, and make sure it […]

Acorns, Squirrels and Grace Green Beauty

Oct 18 2015

At Grace Green Beauty we’re like squirrels. We’re obsessed with acorns. They don’t do much for our skincare products but they sure help us spread the concept of grace. We’ve realized that such a tiny thing can, with a little loving, spread grace as it germinates and grows into a strong, majestic oak tree. As you know, oak trees aren’t just any old tree. They are tall and strong, providing, shade, lumber and truly sturdy limbs for some of the best tree houses a kid can build. They represent truth, stability, wholesomeness and nobility. And it’s really fun to jump in a pile of its leaves. So why are we nuts about acorns and oak trees?  Because the process from germination to growth are the essential elements for how we at Grace Green Beauty spread grace throughout the world. Our companies commitment and standard display the respect we have for Mother Nature. But we want to do more to celebrate the planet and the creatures who inhabit it. So we have started a quiet revolution—one tree at a time. Welcome to GraceGrown: a Living Gift.  Here’s how our special gift to the community works: Children with participating schools, day care centers and church groups collect acorns wherever they can find them. We tell them to look for acorns free of worms, holes and fungus. Kids LOVE harvesting acorns! Next, they perform a “float test” by putting the acorns in a bucket of water and allowing them to settle. Any acorns that float or are mushy are considered “bad nuts”. The kids determine the best acorns and toss the others.  The children germinate the remaining acorns by placing them in plastic bags full of saw dust and store them in the refrigerator. This process is known as stratification, which is simply exposing a […]

It’s Time to Give Chickens More Respect

Sep 27 2015

For years chickens have been given a bum rap. They are the subject of countless jokes about crossing the road, being afraid and enduring questionable parentage. Do we really care which came first?  The chicken or the egg? To our family, chickens are, well, family.  All 10 of them. They cluck around our back yard to the delight of the neighborhood children who flock to see them daily. In fact, each of our children and some of their friends “own” each one. So why did we devote the use of our Pack ‘N Play to nurture 10 newly hatched chicks for months? And then convert our son’s playhouse into a chicken coop? It’s all about giving grace to nature. We feed the best grains we can to our hens. No GMOs for these ladies! In turn, we get free range chicken eggs, one of the best sources of protein you can find. We are also assured of eating antibiotic-free eggs packed with Vitamin A, E and Beta Carotene. This is a pretty sweet bonus since the nation is starting to face an egg shortage. I have to admit that I love watching our chickens dance around our backyard. They don’t exactly do the chicken dance, but they actually look like they are having fun strutting around. They are very social, smart and true extroverts. That’s probably why I find them wandering into our house so often. Whoever thought that owning chickens would give us natural weed eaters and grass mowers, not to mention gratis fertilizer! And you thought the only benefit was eggs, didn’t you! I also notice that they actually take care of each other and are totally aware of their surroundings. Did you know that chickens talk to their chicks while still in […]

Jump And The Net Will Appear | Grace Makes Headlines Twice In One Week

Sep 01 2015

Just a few short weeks ago, I took the leap into Grace Green Beauty full time. Walking away from the security, familiarity, and general ease of working behind the salon chair wasn’t an easy decision. In fact, to most people… it seemed a bit crazy. And it IS a bit crazy, but nothing worth anything comes easy. Crazy is good! When taking risks, my mom has always told me “Tempal just take the leap… the net will appear”. So… I took the leap. Nothing solidifies our (Nick and I) decision to make this leap better than TWO local news stations featuring Grace Green Beauty within the first two weeks of our move. Take a minuite to celebrate with us! {{CHEERS}} I had a great morning sharing my products on live TV, Channel 19 News. Grace Green Beauty on fox19 news (click here to view our segment)   A big thanks to WCPO Channel 9 for the wonderful article. Eileen Fritsch was a pleasure to meet and I thank her for her awesome article. Grace Green Beauty Channel 9 (click here for the full article)   Peace, Love and GRACE, tempal grace

The Buzz on DEET. Nature vs. Pesticide

Jul 10 2015

What is DEET? Deet (N,N-Diethyl-meta-toluamide), a slightly yellow chemical oil, is a common active ingredient in insect repellent. Over the last 45 years, billions of people worldwide have used various forms of DEET to effectively repel mosquitos. But before your next slathering or spritzing of conventional bug spray, read on. The History of DEET The origin of DEET is credited to the United States Army. It was formulated in response to the Army’s jungle warfare experiences of World War II. Originally tested as an agricultural pesticide, the Army implemented the widespread use of DEET in 1946. The chemical became available to the public in 1957 with the mass production of creams, lotions and aerosols. Today, over 33% of the U.S. population utilizes a DEET-based application in one form or another. How DEET Works DEET was originally believed to block the olfactory senses of insects, thereby prohibiting the detection of humans via the sense of smell. However, recent studies at the University of California have proven the chemical’s smell is actually the deterrent. A 2013 study conducted by the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine found DEET works very well with the product’s first application. Subsequent applications, however, have proven to be less effective, as mosquitos’ tolerance to the chemical’s scent increases. Is DEET really safe? Although recognized and approved by the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (“CDC”), the use of DEET is not without controversy. Health and environmental warnings abound regarding the chemical. There have been reported incidences of toxicity exposure. Neurological symptoms include: dizziness, headaches, drowsiness, seizures, and even death. Additional potential side effects include: birth/developmental risks, kidney/liver damage, neurotoxicity, and dermal irritation. The CDC does not recommend use of DEET in children under two months of age, and the suggested usage on children ages […]

The Stretch Mark Truth

Dec 22 2014

Stretch marks. Every pregnant woman’s enemy! When I was pregnant with my first child, I went to all lengths to prevent stretch marks. What I am about to confess will surely have you questioning my sanity! OR, maybe…you will wonder why you didn’t think of my idea. I guess it just depends on how much you fear(ed) stretch marks!!! My first pregnancy came as a surprise. At 20 years old, little did I know that stretch marks were the least of my worries! Oh to go back to that time. If only I could tell my young self that there would bigger fish to fry than a few stretch marks imposing on my perfect skin! Never the less, here it is, for your entertainment (and my embarrassment). I would start nightly routine by lathering jojoba oil over every inch of my body. Next, I would call my sister into the room. God knows, she is the only one I could allow to see this ridiculous routine. She would hold the saran wrap while I twirled round and round until my entire trunk was wrapped up like a saran covered mummy! I would leave my mummified body to soak in the oil for the next 4 or 5 hours! 9 years, and 2 more kids later… I am thankful that I took great care of my skin while pregnant, but even more thankful for the knowledge I have acquired! Much has been learned, and I have much to share! While hydrating and feeding your skin can help limit or reduce stretch marks, sometimes, there is nothing that can prevent them completely (sigh). Stretch marks happen when your body grows faster than your skin can keep up with. This causes the elastic fibers just under the surface of the skin to break, […]
